Who Must File Form 2290 HVUT Tax Return?
If you own a highway motor vehicle with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more that is to be registered or required to be registered in your name under state, District of Columbia, Canadian, or Mexican law at the time of its first use during the period, then you must e-file IRS Form 2290 and Schedule-1 for the tax period beginning on July 1, 2012, and ending on June 30, 2013. Individuals, limited liability companies (LLC), corporations, partnerships, or any other type of organization (including nonprofit, charitable, educational, etc) are all able to file for the Form 2290.

Where to File your Form 2290 HVUT Truck Tax Return for Tax Year 2012 – 2013?
For those not filing electronically, the Form 2290 tax should be mailed with full payment to IRS, P.O. Box 804525, Cincinnati, OH 45280-4525. Mail the Form 2290 without payment due or using EFTPS for payment to Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, Cincinnati, OH 45999-0031.

Certain private delivery services designated by the IRS to meet the “timely mailing as timely filing/paying” rule for tax returns and payments can be utilized by filers. These private delivery services include DHL, FedEx, and UPS.
Although filers have the option of using the above mail services, the IRS encourages all taxpayers to file Form 2290 electronically in order to receive the watermarked stamped Schedule-1 instantly to save time and money versus waiting for your Schedule-1 by mail. E-filing allows a filer to receive their Schedule-1 in minutes when they use one of the approved IRS e-file providers.

How to Pay your IRS Form 2290 HVUT Truck Tax Due?
There are three different payment methods to pay the tax.

• Electronic funds withdrawal (direct debit) when filing electronically.
• Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS).
• Check or money order using the payment voucher.

Filers must pay the tax in full with the Form 2290 in order to receive the Schedule-1. Taxpayers are able to use any approved e-file providers including Tax2efile to complete and make payments for the Form 2290 truck tax return.

How To Make Your Payment for your Form 2290 HVUT Truck Tax Return?
Electronic funds withdrawal (direct debit): For those filing Form 2290 electronically, it is possible to authorize a direct debit transaction by providing your bank routing number, as well as your account number. This transaction I used to make the Form 2290 HVUT payment when e-filing a tax return with any authorized e-file provider, including Tax2efile. This is seen as the best payment option for receiving your Schedule-1, and at the same time, you will not be penalized for not filing the tax payment on-time. We recommend this method using our Tax2efile e-filing service.

EFTPS: EFTPS is another voluntary payment method that requires registration on the IRS before use. To get additional information or to enroll in the EFTPS process, visit the EFTPS website at www.eftps.gov or call 1-800-555-4477 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week). The EFTPS payment does not need to include the payment voucher. However, if the taxpayer is filing a paper Form 2290, mail the Form 2290 to Department of the Treasury Internal Revenue Service, Cincinnati, OH 45999-0031. E-filing services allow filers to submit their return and get their Schedule-1 right away, but DO NOT forget to register with the EFTPS in order to make the payment because e-filing services do not send your Form 2290 HVUT payment to the IRS using their electronic filling service. In order for EFTPS payments to be on time, the taxpayer must initiate the transaction at least 1 business day before the date the payment is due.

Check or Money Order: When using this payment method, taxpayers must also complete the Form 2290 return along with the payment voucher Form 2290-V. E-filing services like Tax2efile allow filers to use their system to complete and print the Form 2290 HVUT truck tax return to send to the IRS by mail with their CHECK payment. Cash is not accepted. Make checks or money orders payable to the “United States Treasury.” Send it with the Form 2290 online, both copies of the Schedule-1, as well as the payment. If the taxpayer files electronically with our Tax2efile service, do not send the Form 2290 and Schedule 1 with the payment voucher. Do not staple the payment to the Payment Voucher Form 2290-V or Form 2290. If your Form 2290 HVUT Truck Tax Return is prepared by a third party, provide the payment voucher to the return preparer or tax professional who prepared your IRS Form 2290 Truck Tax Return.
